Born in Laconia, a young man in the early post-war years, Lykourgos Stavrakos wanted to study directing. As our State had not established a State Film School, there was no way to make his dream a reality. In 1948, at a time when everyone who worked in cinema was an empiricist, Lykourgos Stavrakos took the initiative to establish the first Film School in Greece. Visionary of a new generation of trained filmmakers, he dared and founded with minimal means and possibilities his eponymous School, having first believed in the necessity and value of film education.
