After the official participation of “The Souvlaki Project” at the 26th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival in podcast format, Nalia Zikou and FAMA bring Sofia Gourgouliani's story to life on stage just before the beginning of our summer holidays. Two Greek women working on the island and two American women in love weave a narrative around a skewer to talk, finally, about what binds us to a place.Two women work in two different restaurants on a small tourist Greek island. One works as a waitress and table cleaner in the “gourmet” restaurant in the area and the other in the souvlatzidiek as a freezer and skewer wrapper. Their lives are compromised and repetitive in a summer of overwork that, however, does not stop them from dreaming of travel, skies and futures. Their lives are momentarily but fundamentally disrupted when a couple of American women show up at the same night in the two shops asking for a skewer.
