In the 1990s, the director and actor Thodoros Kalvos and the director, actor and psychologist Michalis Kalampokis created a model theatrical workshop for the purpose of theatrical training, preparation of candidates for the examinations of the Ministry of Culture and the faculties of the National and State Northern Greece Experience as well as artistic presence with performances in summer tours and festivals. The artistic work, the special program based on teaching methodology and the high success rate in the above exams were not long in demand, which prompted the founders to proceed in 2006 to create the Higher Drama School “Athenian Stage”, providing a state-recognized degree. The formation of the teaching staff and the original curriculum brought about a major change in theater education in Greece something that was embraced from the first year by dozens of students, completing all the departments. Since then, the response has been unabated and the research spirit of the founders leads to new designs adapted to contemporary theatrical needs.
