In response to one of the main goals of our theatre to accommodate new artistic forms and reflections, as well as to the desire of groups that have re-joined, On Kolono organizes the 2017 Off-Off Athens festival this year. In the eight previous festivals, the participation was large, while many of the participating performances, attracting interest and acceptance, continued successfully in the next theatrical period, either in On Kolono or in another venue. The character of this theatrical festival remains pluralistic as it has already been established and our intention not to set artistic selection criteria remains firm. The participating groups will also have the opportunity this year to experiment freely in an artistic “place” - on the perimeter of the Athenian theater stage - with the sole aim of flourishing creative expression. The different perceptions of the groups about theatre and art in general, as well as their meeting with theatre-loving audiences, create a climate of creative interaction, competition and communication that is often transferred “after hours” and in the courtyard of the theatre with the performers in direct contact with the audience, with the other groups and with professionals of the theater space. A real open showcase. Within the framework of Off-Off Athens, our space, together with technical support, will be provided free of charge to the participants, with the desire to stand in solidarity with the new groups, who are looking for a place and a way of expression, but also to help create a climate of artistic search.
