Park Chan-wook was one of the big winners this year at the Cannes Film Festival winning the Directing Award on Saturday passed to us for his new film “Decision to Leave” which, for many, is considered one of his best films. And, fortunately, the South Korean auteur doesn't seem to want to stop making movies anytime soon.
For his next project, Chan-wook will return to television to deliver Viet Tan Nguyen's book “The Sympathizer,” in an A24 production in collaboration with HBO, but he doesn't seem to stop there.
In an interview with Deadline in Cannes, the filmmaker revealed that he is trying to find funding for some of his new films, including a Western and a science fiction film that he wrote himself. He is also preparing to make a remake of the 2005 French horror film “The Ax” directed by Costas Gabras about a man who becomes a serial killer out of necessity.
“It's really a heartbreaking story about a middle-aged man who lost his job and now has to bring food to the table to feed his family. So, trying to get a job in a niche field, he becomes a serial killer,” Park Chan-wook said of the remake of the film he is preparing.
